Job Description

Position Description:
The RN demonstrates the ability to deliver nursing care to Observation Patients/Family through the interactive elements of the nursing process of: assessing; diagnosing; identifying expected patient outcomes; planning; implementing; and evaluating the effectiveness of nursing care. The candidate must be able to care for the observation chest pain patient by monitoring chest pain symptoms and vital signs to determine whether their condition warrants discharge or inpatient admission. Clinicians at the CDU also treat non-cardiac observation patients (CHF, Abdominal Pain, Syncope, Dehydration, TIA) that are transferred from the ED or post surgery after presentation in the ED that require no more than a 24 hour observation period before discharge. The RN demonstrates standards of professional performance by maintaining competencies in the care of the adult and geriatric patient population. The RN abides by the rules and regulations set forth by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing.

1)The RN must be able to recognize an acute cardiac condition through patient assessment of continued chest pain, EKG changes and elevated biomarkers. The RN takes appropriate actions in notifying the physician to transfer to an acute inpatient level of care.

2)The RN will initiate and document infection control precautions as per policy 100% of the time as well as maintain and document infection control precautions per policy and utilize appropriate PPE. The RN will also provide education to family and patient on the infection control guidelines.

3)The RN will assess, reassess and document patient status per policy including but not limited to admission and discharge documentation. The RN will plan, implement, and document nursing care that is appropriate to the patient's needs, condition, and culture.

4)The RN must demonstrate use of clinical reasoning to formulate the most appropriate nursing diagnosis and interventions based on patient assessment.

5)The RN will delegate appropriately to team members to maximize quality of care and utilization of resources.

6)The RN will maintain confidentiality with all information.

7)The RN will meet departmental standards and competencies as evidenced by departmental documentation..

8)The employee will report to work on time and work as scheduled and per attendance policy. The employee will work independently with minimal supervision and utilize policy and procedures of the facility to guide them in the proper course of action.

9)The employee will comply with safety policies and procedures and maintain professional working relationships with co workers, physicians, and customers.
Position Requirements:
Education:
A graduate of an accredited nursing school.
Licensure:
Must possess a current Oklahoma License as a Registered Nurse.

Technical/Formal Training:
Must obtain and maintain a current certification in CPR. RN must obtain ACLS within 6 months of hire date. New graduates will obtain ACLS within 1 year of hire date.

Knowledge/Skill/Abilities:
Must be able to follow directions and perform work according to department standards when no directions are given. Must be emotionally mature and able to function effectively under stress.
