    College/Department Overview

    BRONCHO EDUCATION & LEARNING LAB (BELL) FORMERLY KNOWN AS TUTORING CENTRAL (TC). WHERE BRILLIANT STUDENT MINDS GATHER TO HELP BRONCHOS LEARN. Applications for positions in UCO’s BELL operate on a pool-basis. We collect qualified applications from students who are willing to help Bronchos learn through tutoring, conversations, study halls, and other activities devoted to academic endeavors. We strive to hire students who perform well and who demonstrate the greatest likelihood of returning and/or assuming future leadership roles in the BELL.

    Position Overview

    Provide in-person and/or online academic tutoring to students. Maintain an effective and positive learning environment.

    Department Specific Essential Job Functions

    Learning Facilitators in the BELL are hired to help students learn in one or more subject areas under the direction of a Student Learning Coordinator and the BELL Administrative Oversight Team. We are seeking UCO graduate and undergraduate students who are passionate in two areas: (1) their key subject areas and (2) their commitment to helping others learn. Facilitators will provide assistance to Broncho students by assisting them with assignments and other academic endeavors.

    Learning Facilitators are expected to maintain a schedule for appointments, provide learning session information, and complete reports for the Administrative Oversight Team. Opportunities exist for returning Learning Facilitators to advance. When not helping students learn, Learning Facilitators are responsible for completing assigned projects, subject-relevant tasks, and other duties associated with the BELL.

    Learning Facilitators (LFs) are chosen based on their prior exceptional performance in each of the subject areas for which they will help facilitate learning in client sessions. Chosen LFs should have demonstrated successful course completion in the areas in which they will become a LF. They will engage in one-on-one appointments, walk-in appointments, study halls, and other client sessions to facilitate learning for current UCO students.

    Along with serving as a Learning Facilitator, Front Desk Learning Liaisons assume a role of assisting with the clerical and administrative support of the BELL. This involves utmost professionalism, attention to detail, strong customer service skills, and a mastery of the BELL processes and procedures. Front Desk Learning Liaisons will need to interact collegially with BELL Learning Coordinators and the BELL Administrative Oversight Team.

    This is a semester-long commitment, which requires 20 hours per week for the entire semester employed. The Learning Liaison is expected to:

    • Attend and be punctual for all client sessions
    • Conduct professional client sessions based on strong peer-tutor practice
    • Reduce absenteeism and minimize cancelled appointments
    • Attend needed trainings and/or meetings with their respective subject matter Learning Coordinator(s)

    Attend needed trainings and/or meetings with the BELL Administrative Oversight Team

    Qualifications/Experience Required

    ENROLLMENT REQUIREMENTS Fall/Spring Semesters All student employees must be enrolled at least half time to be eligible to work any UCO student position. Half time enrollment for Fall/Spring is considered 5 hours for graduates and 6 hours for undergraduates. Summer Semester Undergraduate Work-Study students must be enrolled in 6 hours to work on campus and Graduate Work-Study students must be enrolled in at least 5 hours. All other students must be enrolled in at least 3 hours to work on campus. Students not enrolled in summer classes must be enrolled in Fall classes in order to work on campus, but will be required to pay FICA taxes. If the number of hours needed to graduate is less than the minimum hours required to work, the student must obtain a letter from his/her advisor stating the number of hours needed to graduate.     Qualifications/Experience Preferred

    1. Outstanding performance in the course(s) associated with their designated subject areas. Preference is given to students who have completed the course(s) at UCO and have a declared major in the subject area.
    2. Received at least an A- in the course(s).
    3. Minimum GPA of 3.4.
    4. Attended at least two semesters of college; preference is given to juniors, seniors and Grad students.
    5. Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills; preference is given to students who are willing to conduct presentations that promote and professionally showcase the BELL.
    6. Scheduling software and other technical experience; preference is given to students who have demonstrated experience with the systems and processes of the BELL.

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

    Excellent communication skills both written and oral.
    Detail oriented.
    Required character traits: Dependability, thoroughness, and initiative.
    Have sensitivity of intercultural communication, and have good interpersonal skills.

    Have expertise in navigating the online tools and scheduling platforms used in the BELL.

    Physical Demands

    Repetitive movement of hands and fingers - typing and/or writing. Frequent standing, and/or sitting. Occasional walking, stooping, kneeling or crouching. Reach with hands and arms. Visually identify, observe and assess. Ability to communicate with supervisor/students/colleagues. Regular physical attendance required.
